Six fire trucks were dispatched to extinguish the fire.
The Fire Protection and Rescue Service (PAGD) confirmed to Eltai that the car dump in Vilnius caught fire.
It is reported that the fire broke out on Panerių st. 56 in the landfill. Heavy clouds of black smoke can be seen at the scene.
According to PAGD, the fire was reported at 6 p.m. 32 min.
“Extinguishing works are currently underway, a car scrapyard is on fire,” said Konradas Liekis, senior specialist of the Situation Coordination Department of PAGD, to Eltai.
According to the PAGD representative, increased pollution is recorded around the scene. It is intended to provide recommendations to residents in the near future.
A large number of firefighters are at the scene.
Due to the fire, Vilnius City Municipality urges residents to close their windows.
“We recommend residents to close the windows and turn off the recovery systems. We are monitoring the situation and will inform you about the further progress”, it is written on the Facebook account of Vilnius City Municipality.
The warning also reached the residents of Vilnius by telephone.
