For its part, the Central Election Commission (CEC) hastens to reassure – voting from home will be possible until Saturday evening.
There was no bulletin and no information
Until now, a woman of respectable age living in Avižienii used to vote at her home, but so far she has not received a visit from the CEC staff.
“Now I’m sitting at home – I’m one of those you have to come to the house because I’m 87 years old, I have a disability. I heard on the radio that you have to come home to vote today.
On Wednesday, I called the number 1855, checked, asked for my personal identification number and immediately said that you can vote now. I said you have to come to my house. Said “that’s good”. According to the elderly woman, there have never been any similar problems until now – the woman received her ballot in advance, as well as leaflets to make it easier to choose her candidates. This year, she didn’t even get that.
“They always brought to familiarize themselves with how to vote, there were two cards in case there was a repeat round. Now nothing – empty boxes everywhere, no one reported anything. And now I don’t know what will come. If you don’t come, that’s it – I won’t go anywhere and I won’t look. I can’t climb any stairs,” consoled the disabled elderly woman.
Danguole testified that she does not have a television, so it is difficult for her to decide who to cast her vote for, even if the ballot paper reaches her.
“No one has received any paper from the neighbors in the mailbox that the vote is taking place at all.” I don’t have a TV, I don’t even know who else is going to the polls. I know I.Šimonytė, G.Nausėda – and that’s it. And I know there is a referendum. And nothing more.
If no one shows up today, I will remain without a vote, and I think this matter should be brought up, because my vote should go somewhere. It smells very unpleasant to me,” said the woman.
The CEC is in a hurry to reassure
CEC representative Indrė Ramanavičienė for the portal lrytas.lt on Friday evening said that such a situation is normal – because voting at home will take place until Saturday evening. Therefore, according to her, a woman should definitely get a commission member.
“Voting at home takes place on both Friday and Saturday from 8 am. in the morning until 8 p.m. evening During those hours, election commissions visit the homes of voters who have the right to vote, according to the established schedule, and voters should receive them,” assured I. Ramanavičienė.
However, according to the representative of the CEC, if the voter does not receive a visit on Saturday evening, he should immediately contact the short number 1855 and inform the election organizers about it.
“Then they will immediately check the reasons why they didn’t visit – maybe the commission was there, but the voters weren’t at home at the time, maybe they didn’t hear the call – there are all kinds of cases. Then we look at the situation of each voter and decide what to do. But voting is taking place both today and tomorrow, so voters should prepare their identity documents and wait for the members of the election commission”, assured I. Ramanavičienė.
Early voting in the presidential election took place from Tuesday to Thursday. The presidential election will be held this Sunday, May 12.
