However, Lithuanians have very little knowledge about cancer and its treatment and use screening programs slowly, so the European Union (EU) mission to fight cancer invites residents to learn more about this insidious disease through a special traveling “consultation cabinet” – such a “consultation cabinet” traveling through Lithuania – an innovation throughout Europe, according to the press release of the Oncology Patient Support Association (POLA).
The first stop of this project is Vilnius. Thursday, May 9, at 1:30 p.m. In V. Kudirka Square, passers-by will be consulted for free by various doctors of the National Cancer Institute, scientists, specialists of the public health office “Vilnius viviau” and patients united by POLA, who have already heard the diagnosis of an oncological disease.
Later, such actions will take place in Kaunas, Klaipėda, Alytus and Šiauliai.

According to the World Health Organization, people under the age of 50 are getting cancer more and more often. A study presented a year ago by Scottish and Chinese scientists showed that the number of oncological diseases in this age group has increased by almost 80 percent in three decades. Early diagnosis gives the patient more chances to overcome this still fatal disease and return to life.
