On the night from Wednesday to Thursday, a fire broke out in the warehouse of the IKEA shopping center in Vilnius.

The shopping center was temporarily closed on Thursday after the fire.

As the press representative of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department (PAGD) Edita Zdanevičienė informed BNS on Thursday, the report about the fire that broke out on Vikingų Street in the shopping center was received at 3:57 a.m.

Arriving firefighters brought the flames under control at 5:38 a.m., but firefighters remained at work at the IKEA shopping center until 10 a.m.

“When the first forces arrived at the scene, goods stacked on metal racks were on fire in the warehouse. According to the initial information, 54 sq. meter area, there was a fire, and the entire warehouse was covered in smoke. Firefighters used a lift, ventilated the premises and the incident is being investigated,” said E. Zdanevičienė.

According to initial data, the employees were not injured.

Renata Dantė, head of IKEA’s corporate services for the Baltic countries, says that the fire in the store’s warehouse was signaled by a fire alarm.

Due to the fire, IKEA is closed on Thursday.

“At the moment, the effects of fire extinguishing are being liquidated in the premises, so the IKEA store in Vilnius and the Swedish restaurant are not working today,” reported R. Dantė.
