On the night from Monday to Tuesday, officers of the Kalvarija border checkpoint of the VSAT Varėna border team, patrolling the border section, on the Suvalkai-Marijampolė road (Kalvarija municipality), stopped to check a tractor MAN TGX with a semi-trailer “Koegel”, registered in Germany. The car coming from Poland was driven by a 27-year-old Kyrgyz citizen with a visa from that country. He presented the border guards with valid travel documents and driver’s license, as well as registration certificates for the truck and semi-trailer.

After checking the truck’s identification number (VIN) in the Interpol database, VSAT officials found that half a year ago, on October 6 last year. German police announced a search for this car.

Just half an hour later, another crew of border guards from the same checkpoint stopped another MAN TGX tractor with a Krone semi-trailer, registered in Germany, in the area of ​​the gas station on the aforementioned road. The 30-year-old Kyrgyz citizen who was driving the truck presented the VSAT officials with only his passport with a Lithuanian visa. He claimed that he did not have vehicle registration documents.

After checking the identification numbers of the tractor and semi-trailer in the Interpol database, the border guards found out that they were stolen and wanted in Germany since 2023. October 6 And while inspecting the interior of the car, the VSAT officers found two registration certificates issued in Germany, one of which contained the data of the semi-trailer “Krone” that was wanted in Germany.

On the same Tuesday, at noon, on the Suvalkai-Marijampole road, another crew of Kalvarija border guards patrolling there stopped a MAN TGX truck coming from Poland, registered in Germany, with a “Koegel” semi-trailer, to which Polish license plates were attached.

The 28-year-old Kyrgyz citizen who was driving the truck presented the VSAT officials with his passport, a temporary residence permit in Poland and vehicle registration certificates – German and Polish.

An entry in the Interpol database confirmed that the MAN truck was stolen: the search for it was announced by the German police just a month ago, on April 4.

The Kyrgyz had to drive the trucks from Germany to Kaunas for a fee of 200-500 euros.

Three pre-trial investigations have been initiated in the VSAT Varėna border police station regarding the acquisition or sale of high-value criminally obtained property. For such a criminal act, the law provides for a fine, restriction of liberty, arrest or deprivation of liberty for up to six years.

The Kyrgyz truck drivers who were questioned as witnesses were released after questioning.

Detained trucks MAN TGX with semi-trailers are temporarily stored in the units of the Varėna Border Guard.
