Build a new town hall or… move “gently” to the district municipality!

--

Anyway, over the course of 2 decades, they finished the city theater and reconstructed the Sports Palace, which, even after the reconstruction, is unsuitable for some sports competitions due to the low ceilings. Since 2014 the modernization of apartment buildings and municipal public buildings was started through the Environmental Project Management Agency (APVA). In ten years, the authorities have not been able to solve even the question of the subordination of the polyclinic. And the current government, without performing the most elementary calculations, accepted the “innovative” idea of building a new polyclinic.

An excellent “example” of the government for residents of city apartment buildings – don’t modernize the old ones, build new, modern houses!

It is good that government officials travel around the world at the expense of the organizers. However, those trips must benefit not only travelers, but also the city. Perhaps the greater benefit would be if the Alytus government, taking the dzūki herds and “non-alcoholic “Alita” moss”, went to the very nearby Druskininkai government and found out how such a small municipality, with almost three times less population, was able to build a water amusement park and an indoor ski resort the arena. The authorities of Alytus are unable to build even a small ice arena or a new “placšiadkė” in the City Garden. In Lithuania, in addition to the five big cities, Mažeikiai, Rokiškis, Kėdainiai have ice arenas. Mayor Nerijaus Cesiulis’ idea to build an ice arena in Alytus was truly innovative. However, I do not understand why it had to be built with the funds of private capital and with the obligation to pay 200,000 euros annually to the investor for 15 years for its operation. Why can’t the ice arena be built as an extension of the Alytus Sports and Recreation Center, after all, the heat released by compressors producing cold could heat the pool water?

I will remind you of another government trip to England, from which they brought back the idea to reconstruct the building bought from UAB “Alytaus šilums nettki” instead of the ice arena and to establish a HUB – a co-working space or center for self-employed persons, as well as for companies starting up. I would like to remind the authorities that in 1999, the Alytus Business Incubator was established on the first floor of the Alytus College dormitory after renovation work. The activity is the same as that of the future HUB. Same lady, just a different dress. Or vice versa: the same dress, only the lady is different. Let the readers decide. Currently, the Alytus business incubator is deregistered, liquidated, bankrupt. Does the government want to get on the same rake again?
I am still coming back to the idea of building an ice arena. It failed mainly because of the opinion shared by one representative of the government that it is a very expensive project for the municipality and the people of Alyty can live without it. I would like to ask this official if he has a refrigerator at home? It is not a cheap purchase that consumes a large amount of electricity. It is also possible to do without it, to store food outside on the windowsill. He probably has a fridge, because that’s already a necessity. It is a necessity for a modern city to have an ice arena. The authorities really want the city to be attractive to all residents: from children to seniors. Now, in my opinion, Alytus is moving in the direction of Alytus – the dream city of seniors. Instead of kindergartens and dormitories, we are setting up old people’s homes, in the future we will provide ritual services in the halls and classrooms of closed schools, night dances for seniors are already underway.

As long as the government spends a significant part of the local budget down the “chimney” due to non-modernized municipal buildings, Alytus will not have anything new. Among other things, the government building, the town hall, is not much younger than the polyclinic building. A considerable amount of money also “smokes” through its “chimney”, but the authorities do not care about the modernization of the building. Maybe a representative of the government will have an innovative idea to build a new one? Or maybe a “wedding” with the Alytus district municipality is already waiting for the “gentleman” to move into the renovated district municipality building? And in the town hall we will be able to set up a nursing home, HUB, club, cinema, post office, food bank, etc. in the meeting hall for the former government representatives. Everything would be in one place and it would be very convenient for everyone…

Sincerely
Senas alyciškis Tomas (Last name known to the editors)
