Europe Day – May 9 – is traditionally celebrated in Lithuania and throughout Europe with festive events. This year’s Europe Day is special, because together we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Lithuania’s accession to the European Union. On this day, we invite Vilnius residents and city guests to meet the never-sleeping Vilnius street of the capital, which for one day will be renamed “Europe Street”!

Fun activities, live music, open-air cinema and Eurovision semi-finals await you. You will find offers for Europe Day in the restaurants on “Europos Street”.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Lithuania’s membership in the European Union, let’s celebrate Europe Day together!

Events in Vilnius on May 9. (Thursday), Vilniaus st. 10

11:00 a.m. Unveiling ceremony of “European Street” plaque. You can record your memories or wishes for Lithuania and Europe in the time capsule. They will be stored for 20 years and opened during the 40th anniversary of Lithuania’s membership in the European Union.

In attendance: Member of the European Commission Virginijus Sinkevičiusthe mayor of the city of Vilnius Valdas Benkunskas, a film about those born in 2004. May 1st Karta.EU director Eimantas Belickas.

From 11.30 a.m. Take part in fun activities on “European Street”: spin the European wheel of fortune and win prizes, try the “European Exam” and compete with others, take home a photo reminder of the upcoming European Parliament elections. You will find all the answers about the EU’s opportunities for young people in “Europe’s House”. 1:00 p.m. participate in the discussion about the Erasmus+ international experience.

From 4:30 p.m. theatrical commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Lithuania’s membership in the European Union and percussion instruments musical parade of the group “Ritmas umke”.

5:15 p.m. unfurling a giant European Union flag in the air with the athletes of “Slackline Lietuva”, accompanied by the dancers of the dance studio “Gelios”.

6:00 p.m. musical parade and feasts of the percussion group “Ritmas sikke” – twenty Europe Day cakes.

7:00 p.m. a fun “European Exam” game and prizes for the winners.

7:30 p.m. open air cinema “KARTA.EU” (dir. Eimantas Belickas). The authors of the film watched 2004 for 20 years. May 1st born young people and their lives. See a picture of the first generation of the EU.

22:00 Eurovision second semi-final live broadcast.
