“The presiding state ensures the continuity of the organization’s activities and, of course, formulates its priorities. – The deputy minister said at the government meeting. – First, full support for Ukraine, which is fighting against Russian aggression. This will be our priority in all the activities of the Council of Europe, especially with a lot of attention paid to strengthening the democratic institutions of Ukraine.”

According to him, the aim will also be to involve more states in the activities of the registry of damage caused by Russia to Ukraine, to help Kyiv recover children abducted by Russia.

“We will seek a greater contribution of ET experts in establishing an international tribunal that would meet Ukraine’s expectations,” said the vice-minister.

Lithuania will start the presidency on May 17, taking over this activity from Liechtenstein. During that period, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania will serve as the chairman of the ET MK.

According to the vice-minister, the priorities of the Lithuanian presidency are planned taking into account the geopolitical situation and the decisions of the Council of Europe summit last year in Reykjavík.

In addition to Ukraine, a lot of attention will be paid to strengthening the organization in response to future challenges, implementing decisions of the European Court of Human Rights, and solving the issue of non-EU citizens working in the Council Secretariat.

During the presidency, over 30 events will be organized in Vilnius and Strasbourg.
