On Tuesday in London, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis met with the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom David Cameron and discussed the issues of military, financial and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, sanctions against Russia, and preparations for the NATO Summit in Washington.

“I am glad that Lithuania and the United Kingdom are of the same mind regarding support for Ukraine. All our efforts are aimed at ensuring the victory of Ukraine against the aggressor”, emphasized G. Landsbergis.

According to the ministry, G. Landsbergis and D. Cameron advocated further strengthening of the sanctions regime against Russia.

“Our message to Putin is that time is not his ally. It is necessary to strengthen the pressure of sanctions on Russia, to find ways to prevent the circumvention of sanctions. Russian assets frozen in the West must be transferred to Ukraine’s defense and reconstruction needs. It is very important that our defense industry feels our commitment to support Ukraine and ensure the defense of Europe in the form of long-term contracts,” said the head of Lithuanian diplomacy.

During the meeting, the ministers also paid a lot of attention to the NATO Summit in Washington on July 9-11.

“(…) we have to prove with concrete decisions and practical actions that NATO not only was and is, but also will remain the strongest collective defense Alliance in the world. In Lithuania, we are already approaching 3%, good news from the United Kingdom, which committed to allocating 2.5% in the 2030s. GDP for defense. We must continue to strengthen the security of NATO’s eastern flank”, emphasized the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
