The Lithuanian army exercises “Thunder 2024” are taking place in the country. A curfew has been introduced in one Kaunas microdistrict, but residents will not experience any inconvenience as a result.
On May 6-8, the component part of the national exercises – “Perkūnos bastionas 2024” – is taking place in Kaunas. Soldiers and equipment are moving intensively in the city, in some places imitation means (ammunition or pyrotechnics) are used. The most intensive exercises are taking place at strategically important objects in the Centrum, Petrašiūnai, Eigulių and Aleksots precincts.
On the night of May 7, a curfew was introduced in Palemone, so residents should not be alarmed if they see a larger movement of soldiers. The Lithuanian army announced that with these exercises, the military will practice interaction between the police and the commandant unit. The movement of the population will not be restricted, but any transport may be stopped and checked, so Kaunas residents are asked to remain calm and follow the requests and instructions of soldiers or other officials in good faith.
It is announced that during the exercises “Thunderstorm 2024” taking place jointly in the country, the army and state institutions are training for the transition from peace to war, going through all stages and consistently performing the necessary actions and procedures.

More than 8,000 people are participating in these exercises. Lithuanian army soldiers, as well as Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union and local government representatives, commandants appointed to municipalities are trained, commandant units are formed and their functions are carried out. The Strategic Command, the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, which includes representatives of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, the State Border Guard Service, the Public Security Service and the Command Security Service, as well as tactical command posts – Division and brigade management elements, will train in the training.
For the first time, about 2.5 thousand people were called for training at the same time. active army personnel reserve soldiers, another 2 thousand. call for data verification.
