Kaunas medics understood – time is short

“Recently, a 60-year-old woman applied to another hospital for a weakened arm. There, they performed a CT scan of her brain, but found nothing wrong. However, suspecting a stroke, colleagues sent the patient to us – to the emergency department of Kaunas Clinics

After examining the patient, our resident doctor Rytė Monterroso realized that she did not have a stroke and suspected a blood circulation disorder in the arm. An ultrasound examination confirmed the suspicion – the woman could no longer move her hand because the blood vessels in her hand were blocked. The patient’s hand seemed to have died due to impaired blood circulation,” the doctors wrote.

But after the medical resident successfully found the problem, the patient was quickly rushed to the operating room and the blood vessels were untied.

“In such a situation, promptness is very important. 6 o’clock there is a golden time to restore circulation, and we fit into that time. The patient did not need to be seen by a neurologist because we were able to determine that it was not a neurological problem. This saved us time.
