On Tuesday Delphi recorded a part of the exercise near the Vilnius city municipality building – units of the armed forces were spotted.
The drills will continue until Tuesday night, training to operate after the curfew is imposed.
“From May 7 10 p.m. until the 8th 05 hours in the morning in the territories of Vilnius Viršuliškii and Aukštųių Paneriai and Kaunas Palemons, actions will be practiced after the introduction of curfew – curfew units, together with the Lithuanian Police, will carry out control of the territory, protection of objects, inspection of transport.
Traffic will not be restricted for residents during the exercise, but there will be real checkpoints of the Lithuanian police and commandant units, where passing vehicles can be stopped, documents and other procedures, usual during traffic police raids, will be checked.
In the designated territory, where military curfew measures will be implemented, transport and passers-by may be stopped, documents may be checked, but other real restrictions are not foreseen,” the Lithuanian army previously informed.
Also, during “Perkūno bastionas 24” on May 6-8, a training session on the procedures for requisitioning material assets is carried out, but no real requisitioning takes place.
The largest national exercise “Thunderstorm 2024” will be held until May 10.
During them, the army and state institutions train for the transition from peacetime to wartime, going through all the stages and consistently performing the necessary actions and procedures. The “Thunderbolt 2024” exercises also include smaller exercises: the already mentioned “Thunder Bastion 24”, “Vidrous Sakalas 2024”, “Storm Strike 24”, “Cybernetis Skydas”, on May 2-3, the rapid reaction forces of the Lithuanian Armed Forces were activated.
The “Thunderstorm 2024″ exercises are conducted in order to coordinate the efforts of the army, state institutions, self-government and citizens participating in the State Defense and direct them in the right direction. Mobilization, conscripts, establishment of military commandantships, deployment of the Strategic Command and other actions planned in the exercises lead to one goal – to prepare for armed defense of the state on a national scale,” the Lithuanian army announced.
