Construction waste was poured into the container by one person, and the additional costs were borne by all residents of the district

Almost 180 euros. That’s how much it cost to dispose of construction waste poured into mixed waste containers. These costs will have to be covered by all toll payers of Lazdijai district. Although the construction “debris” was put into the containers standing in the village of Nasūta in Kapčiamiestis ward, probably by one resident.

The employees of the waste management center of the Alytus region, who came to empty mixed waste containers, found them filled with construction waste and could not even move those containers from their place. An additional technician had to be called for help and the waste collection vehicle had to come again.

“It is only a few kilometers to the nearest sorting center in Veisiejai. Wasn’t it difficult for the owner of the waste to take it there and hand it over for free, instead of pouring it into the containers intended for municipal waste?” – ARATC quality inspector Tomas Balzeris was indignant.

He said that these containers used to stand by the public road, which has quite intense traffic in the summer, and passers-by dumped waste not only in the containers, but also near them. In order to prevent the creation of a garbage dump on the side of the road, the containers were moved away from the road so that outsiders could not see or use them. Containers are now allocated for use by six toll payers.

“Just recently, bulky and other waste was collected from registered residents in the Lazdija district by way of bypass. However, someone was unable to use this service or take their waste to the site. Shame. Such people increase the costs of waste management for all of us”, said T. Balzaris.

There are three sorting centers in Lazdijai district: Lazdijai, Veisiejai and Seirijai. Their contacts and working hours are published at https://www.aratc.lt/kontaktai-rusiavimo-centrai-2/. The sorting centers accept all waste from residents, except for heavy-duty car tires, hay bales and automotive plastic, free of charge.

After bringing the waste to the site, the operator must present a document confirming personal identity: an identity card or passport, or a driver’s license issued since 2005. on November 1, or a residence permit of a long-term resident of the Republic of Lithuania in the European Union (permanent residence permit), or a temporary residence permit in the Republic of Lithuania.

Such a requirement is provided for in the rules for accounting and reporting on waste generation and management.

The data is entered into the product packaging accounting information system (GPAIS) and is used for waste management accounting.
