In Klaipėda, three young men were driving what is suspected to be a combat grenade. It seems that the officers found out about it by accident and arrested all three people who were driving the car.

Officially, on Monday, at 6:50 p.m., officers stopped an Audi A6 at a gas station on January 15th Street and found an F-1 combat grenade with an explosive in its cabin.

Deminers from the Lithuanian police anti-terrorist operations team “Aras” were called to the scene, and the “Skydas” plan was introduced at the gas station. Aro deminers recovered an explosive device, possibly an F-1 combat grenade with a detonator. Whether this is really the case remains to be confirmed by forensic experts.

The police arrested the 29-year-old man who was driving the car and the 25-year-old and 22-year-old guys who were driving together. All three were taken into custody.

It turns out that the officers inspected this car not by chance. Just 10 minutes ago, they had received a report about a fight between several men outside an apartment building on Debrecen Street.

It was not reported to the police by any of the participants in the conflict, but by people who witnessed the event. They also reported on the car in which the three participants in the fight left.

Doctors took care of the beaten 53-year-old man.

The pre-trial investigation into this outbreak of violence has not yet started, materials are being collected, and the circumstances of the incident are being clarified.

The head of the city police commissariat, Rasa Bekežienė, assured that there are no data or suspicions that the young men wanted to carry out any sabotage.

Where the suspects got the grenade and why they needed it will still be investigated.

Former policemen who remember the 1990s said that it was easy to get weapons or explosives from ex-Soviet soldiers, and any ammunition was provided by rogues who went to Russia.

Where the young men at this time could have obtained a combat grenade, if it really is, can only be guessed at this time.

R. Bekėžienė assured that all three men were detained both because of the conflict on Debrecen Street and because of suspicions of acquiring and illegally transporting a grenade.
