People have high hopes for the new head of the country – Respublika.lt

Changes in foreign policy

Interviewed at the polling station, Raimondas assured that he already knew who he was going to vote for when he arrived, but he was not biased against any candidate. When asked about possible changes, the man related them to foreign policy.

“In the domestic politics of Lithuania, the Seimas has more powers than the president, so major changes in this area are unlikely to happen for the time being, but I hope that the president will pay more attention to one of his main areas – foreign policy. Especially since the foreign policy of the country so far cannot be called successful”, Raimondas said.

Time to unite society

Interviewed after the vote, Irena emphasized that voting is necessary when thinking about the future of the country. She also stated that she had already decided who to vote for even before the election began, but personally some of the candidates left a negative impression on her.

“They all have the same policy now – to please people and win them over, but I found the rhetoric of some unacceptable,” said the elderly woman, but did not name specific individuals.

When asked about the expected changes, she indicated that she expected the most of them within the country.

“It’s not the first year that everyone gets angry, fights, and divides. I think that it cannot continue like this anymore, so I hope that the new leader of the country will be able to change the current situation and, thinking about the people of Lithuania, will find ways to unite them,” Irena said.

Enough to make the world laugh

And now, after leaving the voting room, Svetlana bluntly stated that she would never vote for Eduardas Vaitkas and Remigijas Žemaitaitis.

“I watched all the debates, I asked all the candidates and I clearly understood that neither their chosen position nor their expressed thoughts or future plans are acceptable to me,” the woman emphasized.

She did not say who she voted for, but she assured that she sees her chosen candidate at least in the second round.

“My chosen candidate sometimes lacks diplomacy, that’s why he speaks strictly and says everything directly, but I think that if he became the head of the country, he would not speak in public like the current president Gitanas Nausėda. It would also lead to changes in the country’s foreign policy, and Lithuania would finally stop being an object of ridicule by the world’s states,” concluded Svetlana.

People rush to vote

After spending about an hour at one of the pre-voting rooms, you could see that the flow of people was moving without stopping, and sometimes there were even queues.

The workers of the polling station said that the very first voters showed up before 7 o’clock in the morning and waited patiently for the polling station to start working. They were also happy that no incidents were recorded during the first three working hours and everything was moving very smoothly.

We remind you that early voting will take place on May 7-9, and the main election date is May 12.

The following are participating in this year’s presidential elections: Giedrimas Jeglinskas, Andrius Mazuronis, Gitanas Nausėda, Ingrida Šimonytė, Eduardas Vaitkus, Ignas Vėgėlė, Dainius Žalimas, Remigijus Žemaitaitis.
