A man and a woman will face trial for possession of carfentanil

The Klaipėda District Prosecutor’s Office completed the pre-trial investigation and submitted the criminal case to the court with the indictment, in which a 47-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman are accused of illegally possessing a very large amount of narcotics.

The accused face many years in prison. It is suspected that the man committed the crime while in prison and serving time for other crimes.

The pre-trial investigation was led by the prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Department of the Klaipėda District Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation was carried out by the officers of the Organized Crime Investigation Board of the Klaipėda County Chief Police Commissariat of the Criminal Police.

According to the data of the investigation, the defendant from the Tauragė district, while serving a prison sentence, agreed with a woman from Klaipėda to commit a very serious crime. It is suspected that a man operating from a prison organized the purchase of a narcotic substance – carfentanil – from a person who was not identified during the pre-trial investigation. He hid the material in the agreed place.

As reported by the prosecutor’s office, the 47-year-old man gave the coordinates of the hiding place to his acquaintance who was at large, who took the drugs hidden there. It is believed that the woman, following the instructions of the convict, transported the quacks and kept them in her house.

Last September, when law enforcement officials checked the home of a Klaipėda resident, a very large amount of carfentanil – no less than 0.668 g – was found during the search. It should be noted that even very small amounts of this substance are dangerous to the health or life of those who consume it, as overdoses and severe poisoning of the body are possible.

Both persons were charged under Article 260 of the Criminal Code (“Illegal possession of narcotic or psychotropic substances with the intent to distribute them or illegal possession of a very large amount of narcotic or psychotropic substances”). For the criminal acts provided for in this article, persons may be punished with imprisonment from 10 to 15 years.

The criminal case was transferred to the Klaipėda District Court.
