This pre-trial investigation was led by the prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Department of the Klaipėda District Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation was carried out by the officers of the Organized Crime Investigation Board of the Klaipėda County Chief Police Commissariat of the Criminal Police.

According to the data collected during the pre-trial investigation, the Plungi resident, who was previously convicted of illegal possession of narcotic and psychotropic substances, organized the transportation of drugs to Lithuania in the summer of 2022. The totality of the available data suggests that the accused agreed with an acquaintance that he would transport a shipment of items from Spain to Lithuania with his truck. The defendant promised to pay the driver money for such a service.

The driver, who did not understand the nature of Plungiški’s criminal actions, agreed to bring the package to Lithuania, but when he crossed the border between Poland and the Republic of Lithuania, he was stopped by the authorities. The latter, after inspecting the vehicle, found two paper boxes tightly wrapped in black plastic film in the cab of the truck, and they contained more than 22 kilograms of the narcotic substance – cannabis.

For this, the resident of Plungė was charged in accordance with Article 199 (“Smuggling”) of the Criminal Code, Part 4 and Article 260 (“Illegal possession of narcotic or psychotropic substances with the aim of distributing them or illegal possession of a very large amount of narcotic or psychotropic substances”) of the Criminal Code.

The criminal case was transferred to the Kaunas District Court.
