During the exercise, the cooperation and interaction of armed forces units, military commandants and state and municipal institutions, institutions and organizations during mobilization and martial law will be practiced, as well as property requisitioning and curfew announcement.
Armed forces units, state and municipal institutions, institutions and economic entities will take part in the exercise. The units of the armed forces will also be near the Vilnius municipality building, Konstitucijos pr. 3.
The exercises will test the readiness of the state and municipal institutions, institutions and organizations of the Vilnius and Kaunas region to carry out the tasks of mobilization and support of the host country.
During the exercise in Vilnius, Viršuliškės and Paneri, the movement of military units and police raids will take place.
The soldiers, together with the shooters, will train to control the territory without the police, they will stop the transport intended only for the exercise, and they will also perform the protection of some objects. A curfew will be announced in a certain area. Active actions are planned during the dark hours of the day, so the residents will not experience any inconvenience due to the organized exercises.
There is a curfew during the exercise
During these exercises, from May 7 at 10 p.m. until the next day at 5 o’clock in the morning in Vilnius, actions will be practiced after the introduction of the curfew.
Although a military curfew will be introduced during the exercise, as Major Donatas Suchockis, chief officer of the Military and Civilian Cooperation Board of the Defense Staff said at the end of April, it will not change the normal life of the country’s residents.
“She shouldn’t be scared, it’s more of our internal training. So much so that soldiers will be visible at night from the 7th to the 8th in the designated areas. However, this will not affect either the traffic or the residents’ ability to move,” commented Maj. D. Suchockis.
However, he noted that traffic raids can be carried out on the country’s roads during the curfew.
“Working together with the Lithuanian police, ordinary road traffic raids can be carried out, during which traffic flow is stopped, documents are checked, and drivers’ vehicles can be checked. However, freedom of movement will not be restricted in any other way,” he added.
It is announced that during the military curfew, soldiers will train in the Palemons district of Kaunas, as well as in the Aukštyųj Panerių and Viršuliškių districts of Vilnius.
Commandant units, together with the Lithuanian police, will carry out control of the territory, protection of objects, and inspection of transport. Traffic will not be restricted for residents during the exercise, but there will be real checkpoints of the Lithuanian police and commandant units, where passing vehicles can be stopped, documents and other procedures, usual during traffic police raids, will be checked.
The “Thunderstorm 2024” exercises are carried out in order to coordinate the efforts of the army, state institutions, self-government and, to some extent, citizens who are indifferent to the defense of the State and to direct them in the right direction.
