A meaningful day in Paistry – AINA

The last Sunday of April (04.28) Paistrys received many guests. They celebrated St. George’s indulgences, which began in the church of M. Marijas Globos in Paistris. St. The priest of Paistris, canon Pranciskus Tamulionis, offered the mass.

After that, there was a report meeting of Paistris local club “Ėuolas”. It was attended by the first president of the club, Janina Stakelytė-Kumpienė, the second president, doctor Petras Knizikevičius, members of the local council, local people and guests. President Petras Nevulis presented the 2019-2023 work report, accountant Genovaitė Glušokienė paid for the financial part. Elections will be held in the fall, as changes need to be made to the club’s bylaws. Essays are already being collected for the regional newspaper “Paistrietis”, which will be published during the national holiday.

In the afternoon, the traditional “Literary Jurginės” were held in the homestead where the sculptor Juoz Zikars was born, dedicated to the Paistris church builder, the priest and poet Jurgius Tilvyčius-Žalvarnius. The festive event was organized by the employees of the Paistris Cultural Center, led by the director of the center Daiva Kiršgalvienė. It is nice that the poets of Paistris J.Zikars Gymnasium responded to the invitation of local writers. Citizens of Biržia, Pasvalyas, members of Panevėžys City TAU Literary Club “Sietuva” and Panevėžys District Literary Club “Polėkis” arrived. The young dancers of Paistris, dressed in national clothes, danced. A group from Joniškėlis of Pasvalis district and Velžys of Panevėžys district played and sang. After reading poetry, listening to songs and music, and dancing, everyone was treated to a warm lunch.

Visited the sculptor J. Zikar’s museum, had a chat, because the weather was great and the crowd was great. We hope that the existing traditions will continue to be nurtured.
