Vilnius district The officers of the Criminal Police Organized Crime Investigation Board of the Chief Police Commissariat conduct a pre-trial investigation based on the signs of criminal acts provided for in Article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania. 1, Art. 265

In April of this year in the middle of Vilnius district KPONTV officers of VPK, carefully collecting and analyzing the received information regarding the illegal distribution of narcotic substances, arrested two foreign citizens of Armenian nationality, who were growing narcotic substances – cannabis, in a secluded house far from the city of Vilnius.

After collecting enough data on the possible criminal act, a procedural coercive measure – a search – was carried out in the house identified by the police officers. During it, a room specially equipped for growing cannabis was discovered in the rented house, where 32 adult cannabis plants, special lamps, watering and ventilation equipment were found and taken. About 300 g of picked and ready-to-distribute cannabis flowers were also found.

The judge of the district court of the city of Vilnius stated that both persons are citizens of third countries, born in Belarus. A decision was made regarding their deportation from the Republic of Lithuania, but they continue to live illegally in Lithuania. In this investigation, persons are suspected of having committed a serious crime, provided for in Article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania. 1, and the aggravated crime provided for in Article 265 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania. 1, so it is reasonable to assume that the suspects face a severe prison sentence. In the judge’s assessment, there is a high risk that the suspects, who do not have strong social ties in Lithuania, which would prevent them from escaping (hiding), are aware of the criminal responsibility they face, are citizens of third countries and have connections abroad, and can freely run away (hide) from pre-trial investigation officers, the prosecutor and the court. As a result, they were remanded in custody for 3 months.

The investigation is organized and controlled by the prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Department of the Vilnius District Prosecutor’s Office.
