A park named after Mammoth is planned to be established in the geomorphological reserve of Šeškinė slopes. The previously announced preliminary value of the project is about 13 million. EUR (including VAT).
Donatas Baltrušaitis, the architect of the architectural company Bauland, who prepared the park project, says that this is how the boundary of the last ice age is meant to be understood.
“We are creating the concept of an open museum in the park, in order to make sense of it, to tell the people of Vilnius, in information stands, in educational materials, about the stages of the geomorphological development of Vilnius, the border of the last ice age, which shaped the entire relief of Vilnius,” D. Baltrušaitis told BNS.
According to him, after the implementation of the project, the pedestrian and bicycle paths built between the individual districts of the city will also be connected. One of them is near Ukmergė Street.
According to the Vilnius municipality, if the preparatory phase of the project were to proceed as planned, the contract works could begin at the end of 2025.
The park will have a natural natural environment, trees and natural habitats will be preserved, favorable conditions will be created for the establishment of new species, areas of wild meadows will be restored, and invasive plants will be removed.
For the integrity of the natural framework, the authors of the idea previously proposed to install a viaduct for the migration of animals over Oz Street near the current bridge to the “Acropolis” shopping center. According to D. Baltrušaitis, in the design proposals, it is proposed to install the viaduct with future projects – currently no decision has been made regarding it.
“Bauland” has also developed a multi-functional bicycle and scooter storage project in Vilnius. She is currently designing the Ričardas Gavel Square in Vilnius.
