When the services rushed to the scene, it became clear that the emergency situation had arisen due to a sudden rise in the level of the Nevėžio river.
Nevēžis did not rise so strongly even during the spring flood. It was difficult for rescuers and officials to even get there, but they found the sheep.
After the reconnaissance, it was established that a herd of sheep – about 15 animals – is standing on the island formed in the territory of the fenced pasture.
The lower part of the pasture around the islet was flooded.
Officers and firefighters searched for the owners of the sheep, but could not find them.
People who were at the scene gave journalists photos of animals drowned in the fields.
Neighbors gave the authorities the phone number of the owners, but no one answered the officers’ calls.
Since it was not possible to contact the owners of the sheep on the given phone number, a decision was made not to take action.
