The note of protest was delivered to Jaroslav Khmyl, Belarus’ temporary charge d’affaires, summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The Ministry demanded that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus immediately refute this misinformation and reminded once again that the Republic of Lithuania will take all possible measures to ensure the security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of its country,” the MFA statement reads.

Earlier on Thursday, the Russian state news agency TASS, quoting the head of the KGB of Belarus, Ivan Tertel, reported that Belarusian security authorities had prevented drone strikes from the territory of Lithuania on objects in Minsk.

The report did not provide further details of the alleged attack, nor did it specify its date.

On Thursday, the reports of the Belarusian authorities about the drone attack from Lithuania were denied by the Lithuanian army and called it disinformation.

The head of the Lithuanian National Crisis Management Center, Vilmantas Vitkauskas, said in a press release that the information disseminated by the Belarusian services about pseudo-groups allegedly residing in Lithuania and Poland, aiming to harm Belarus, is not new.

According to the head of the center, this report is intended for the domestic audience of Belarus.

In turn, Minister of National Defense Laurynas Kasčiūnas said that “the field of disinformation is very wide recently”, but it is better not to comment on it, but to deconstruct it.
