This was announced after the meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the two states, where Gabriel Landsberg and Cho Tae-yul (Cho Tae-yul) discussed bilateral relations, support for Ukraine fighting against Russian aggression, the threat posed by North Korea and geopolitical processes in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region.

The Lithuanian minister thanked South Korea for its support to Ukraine, which amounts to 300 million. US dollars, and the decision to allocate another 2 billion in the coming years. US dollars.

“Despite the geographical distance between our countries, the impact of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine is not limited to Europe, therefore we highly appreciate the support of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine and the aspiration to strengthen the rules-based order on a regional and global scale,” said G. Landsbergis.

The head of Lithuanian diplomacy emphasized his condemnation of the illegal nuclear program of North Korea (DPRK) and the supply of weapons to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

The meeting also discussed bilateral economic cooperation in areas of high added value, such as life sciences, semiconductor, and defense industry technologies.

“The trade turnover of Lithuania and South Korea in 2023 was more than 189 million. EUR, South Korea is among the Asian countries that import the most Lithuanian lasers. Lithuania is ready for new joint projects with South Korean companies”, said G. Landsbergis.

The ministers of the countries also discussed the South Korean embassy to be established in Lithuania.

“We are waiting for the South Korean embassy in Vilnius, it is a historic moment for both countries. The embassy will undoubtedly strengthen the friendly relations between Lithuania and South Korea, open the doors to the businesses of both countries and promote human relations and cultural acquaintance”, said the head of Lithuanian diplomacy.

Lithuania’s diplomatic relations with South Korea were established on October 14, 1991.

In 2021, Lithuania and Korea marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the same year the Lithuanian embassy was opened in Seoul. Lithuania wants South Korea to open its embassy and trade representative office in Vilnius as well.
