“Not now, honey, mommy is registering for the referendum on retaining citizenship,” are the words placed above a picture of a woman sitting at a computer while a burning baby rolls on the ground.

Above such an illustration there is also the inscription: “You know what’s on fire?” The issue of dual citizenship.”

Such “liberal” jokes did not go unnoticed not only by some Facebook users, but also by political opponents.

“There was a saying at my baby’s house, ‘not everyone is at home.’ It’s very much about this advertisement of liberals, which does not bother to use images of a baby burning alive in order to achieve a political goal,” wrote MP Agnė Širinskienė.

“The Freedom Party has smoked weed again…” – wondered the peasant Aurelijs Veryga.

“What does straight-up stupid political communication look like?” Like that. It’s even hard to think of what kind of communication would be a more encouraging campaign to vote AGAINST or not to participate in the referendum,” argued the representative of the Democrats, Arnoldas Pikžirnis.

After receiving a barrage of negative comments, the Freedom Party removed the image, stressing that it was “putting out the fire”.

The referendum on the preservation of the Lithuanian citizenship acquired at birth while acquiring the citizenship of another state friendly to Lithuania will be held on May 12, together with the presidential elections.
