Šiauliai Janina Paliulienė celebrated a special 100-year anniversary on April 23. The mayor of Šiauliai, Artūras Visockas, and head of the Civil Registry Department, Vilma Melenienė, congratulated the birthday girl.
The celebrant welcomed the guests dressed up and having her hair done. The representatives of the municipality presented the birthday girl with a bouquet of roses, congratulations, a monetary gift and tied a traditional 100th anniversary ribbon.
Together with her centenary, her eldest son Kostas, daughters Janina, Rima and Regina celebrated their anniversary. The grandmother had 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. All the children live in Šiauliai, while the grandchildren and great-grandchildren are spread out more widely.
The children said that their mother moved to Šiauliai 33 years ago. Until then, he lived in the Šiauliai district, in the village of Girlaukis. For many years, she worked hard on the farm, and when her husband died early, she raised the children alone.
In her youth, J. Paliuliene had to see the horrors of war and the brutal post-war period, so she wished the people of Šiauliai the most important thing – peace. According to the old woman, life is definitely better than ever before, but it is important that it is not destroyed by war, bombs do not fall, so that people get along.
The daughters said that their mother was seriously ill a few years ago, but managed to overcome the disease. Twice she was easily sick with covid.
In the summers, everyone goes together to indulgences in Upyna, visits the graves of relatives, and already this weekend, children, grandchildren, and other relatives will gather at the cafe for the centenarian’s birthday.
V. Melenienė, head of the Civil Registration Department, calculated that 21 Šiauliai citizens should celebrate their 100th or more birthdays this year in Šiauliai. Even 8 of them will reach their 100th anniversary.
