When an explosive-like object was found near the railway bridge in Jonava, train traffic is stopped and may be delayed by an hour, Lithuanian Railways (“LTG Link”) reported. A little later, it turned out that a hand grenade was found during the work. After it was destroyed on the spot, train traffic resumed.

As the railways informed, train traffic on the routes Vilnius-Klaipėda and Kaunas-Šiauliai is temporarily stopped due to the discovery of a suspicious object.

According to the police data provided by the company, a suspicious object similar to an explosive was found in the Jonava district, on Taurostos street near the railway bridge.

Kaunas County Chief Police Commissioner Rūta Stružeckytė told BNS that the object was found during excavation work around 10:25 a.m., and the “Shield” plan was introduced.

“At the moment, deminers have arrived, they will probably destroy the explosive on the spot,” informed the representative of the Kaunas police.

Trains traveling on the Vilnius-Šiauliai and Kaunas-Šiauliai routes are also stopped on the Jonava-Gaižiūnai railway section.

According to LTG Link, trains are likely to be delayed for at least an hour, and the traffic of other trains may be disrupted.
