Lithuania occupies a leading position among European countries when it comes to the activity of small and medium-sized business enterprises in conducting business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-government (B2G) sales through Internet sites.

“The fact that Lithuania occupies a leading position in this field is a clear result of the orientation of the country’s small and medium-sized businesses towards innovations and technologies. Businesses not only actively use e-commerce, but also demonstrate an example of how technology can be applied to successful and efficient business development,” says Sarp Demiray, CEO of European Merchant Bank (EMBank).

Lithuanian small and medium-sized businesses surpassed countries such as Spain and Sweden, which ranked second and third respectively in terms of B2B and B2G e-commerce volumes. Latvia and Estonia, which is particularly often positioned as a country that actively applies technology, are much lower in this ranking – in 20th and 14th places, respectively.

According to the data of the State Data Agency, 15 percent of all Lithuanian companies orders are received or fully executed online, and travel agencies and tour operators are the absolute leaders in the country, executing as much as 75 percent of orders. of all sales through e-commerce.
“Our data and analysis show that Lithuania has all the necessary resources and potential to further strengthen its position as one of the leading countries in the field of e-commerce. This not only promotes economic growth, but also provides huge opportunities to expand exports,” says S. Demiray.
