Lithuanian oil import and processing company Orlen Lietuva is managed by the Polish oil concern Orlen u 20 mln. USD intends to increase several loading and storage capacities of bitumen used for construction by the summer of 2025.

According to Riard Morkvnos, Orlen Lithuania’s sales support and development director, in recent years the company was able to produce more bitumen than it loaded and imported, which prevented the full use of its production technical potential.

Bitumen is a relatively seasonal commodity. Old roads are poorly repaired at the end of the year, when the demand for bitumen grows quite rapidly, and in this case, the queue of vehicles at the factory stops, and we simply could not load the bitumen into trucks anymore. And for that we need an additional loading arm for autotransport, said R. Morkvnas to BNS.

In order to be able to produce not only one, but several bitumen grades in order to expand the assortment, it is also more convenient for us to have separate storage tanks for individual brands of bitumen for sale, he explained.

According to R. Morkvnos, the Orlen Lithuanian project aims to be completed by the second quarter of 2025.

According to him, 20 million The USD project will be financed by Orlen loans.

As indicated in the environmental impact assessment report (EIA), two new 1,000 cubic meters are planned to be built on the territory of the Maeiki factory. three-meter bitumen containers, tanker trucks for its cargo, reconstruction of freight wagons on trestle, as well as preparation of a transformer station with a switchboard.

According to the representative of Orlen Lithuania, the company’s greater bitumen storage and handling capacity will allow to increase its export to Scandinavia and other European countries.

There is currently a shortage of bitumen in the Baltic Sea basin, especially in Scandinavia and Finland, which has become even worse after the sanctions applied to bitumen of Russian origin. Also, Belarusian bitumen does not reach i ali. That need is not met, of course, we are one of the closest oil refineries to these ales, said R. Morkvnas.

According to him, last year Orlen Lithuania produced and imported more than 400,000 tons of bitumen, and in the future the indicator aims to increase to 555,000 tons per year to achieve such a result that the war in Ukraine will end and the need to restore the destroyed oil infrastructure will increase.

At the moment, Orlen Lietuva sells bitumen in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia and fully covers the demand, it is also transported to Finland, in small quantities to Ukraine and sold to loading companies of the port of Klaipeda and Riga.

about 970 mln. Eur verts Orlen Lithuanian plant modernization, during which an in-depth oil refining event is being held. The project, whose general contractor is Great Britain’s Petrofac International, is scheduled to be completed in September 2025.
