09:50 | Ukraine’s powerful response to Russia – it attacked at least five regions with drones

On May 1-2, Ukrainian forces attacked at least five Russian regions with drones: Ryazan, Smolensk, Oryol, Kursk and Krasnodar.

May 2 a fire was recorded in Smolensk after a drone attack in Russia at night. Local residents have released a video of a fire in the Roslavl district, which they say was caused by a Ukrainian drone attack. They also say they heard a series of explosions throughout the night.

“It was heard even in Smolensk,” claim residents of the region.

Governor Vasilijus Anokhin confirmed the attack on the Roslavl district, noting that energy infrastructure facilities were targeted. According to him, rescue and law enforcement services are working at the scene.

Also tonight, Ukrainian aircraft attacked Kursk, Oryol regions. As a result of the attack, the electricity supply was partially disrupted both there and there. The village of Afipsky in the Krasnodar Territory was also shelled. According to local residents, around 3 a.m. three explosions were heard in the night.

And on the night of May 1, the Ukrainians organized a drone attack on the Ryazan oil refinery. During it, it was possible to damage the primary oil refining equipment located on the outskirts of a large company.

09:18 | The way is open for Russia to win the war in Ukraine if the US does not take this decisive step

According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the US decision not to impose sanctions on China would mean Russia could win the war in Ukraine. According to the publication, China has crossed the 2022 the “red line” drawn by US President Joe Biden on Ukraine in March – when he warned Chinese President Xi Jinping not to provide material support to Russia.

Last week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken admitted that Xi Jinping had ignored that warning. According to A. Blinken, China is the main supplier of Russia’s military-industrial base, which leads to fundamental changes in the course of the war.

The publication notes that if the US takes symbolic measures rather than tough sanctions, Beijing and its strategic partners in Moscow, Tehran, Pyongyang and Caracas will see such half-measures as a green light to spread global chaos, which Xi Jinping sees as a historic opportunity to undermine the West.

Mr Biden drew his “red line” three weeks after Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. But by that time, as Mr. Biden himself noted, he was convinced that Xi Jinping understood that if he materially supported Russia, he would “put himself in great danger” and jeopardize China’s economic ties with the United States and Europe.

According to WSJ, the turning point of Russia’s war against Ukraine was 2023. Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow in March, which effectively turned the war between Russia and Ukraine into a war between China and the West.
