“At the moment, we have no comments on the mentioned information,” reads the comment to BNS.

The Ministry of National Defense stated in a comment submitted to BNS that it does not have data on this event at the NATO summit in Vilnius, so it cannot “comment in detail, confirm or deny such assessments”.

“Generally speaking, in the methodology of the Russian security and intelligence services, various measures can be applied and used, not excluding similar ones, in order to influence and intimidate the opponent,” the ministry said.

The “Havana syndrome” was first reported in 2016, when US diplomats in the Cuban capital began complaining that they experienced symptoms such as nausea after hearing ear-piercing noises at night.

All this has led to speculation about a possible attack by a foreign state using an unnamed sonic weapon.

A year-long journalistic investigation “has uncovered evidence suggesting that the origin of unexplained anomalous health conditions may be linked to the ‘directed energy weapons’ used by members of Russia’s military intelligence unit 29155.”

This Russian military intelligence unit is responsible for operations abroad and has been blamed for several incidents abroad, including the attempted poisoning of former double agent Sergei Skripal in the United Kingdom in 2018.

On Monday, Moscow dismissed the allegations as baseless.
