“Two new records again for the second day in a row,” Sunday announced Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service. – Based on preliminary data, a record for the highest air temperature on March 31 was measured.

It even warmed up to +25.5 degrees Celsius in Druskininkai. The previous record for March 31 was recorded exactly 14 years ago (March 31, 2010) in Lazdijai, when it warmed up to +19.8 degrees (that is, even 5.7 degrees less than today).

At the same time, the record for the highest air temperature in March (+22.4 degrees, Druskininkai), which did not last even a day on Saturday, was improved by 3.1 degrees.

The unprecedented warmth in March in the history of Lithuanian meteorological observations was determined by the flow of warm air reaching our country from the south from North Africa.

Along with it, the warm air mass brought dust from the Sahara desert, so the sky on Sunday looks opaque, whitish.

This year, this is already the fifth daily heat record. Last year there were even sixteen of them, thirteen the year before, and in 2021 – six.

According to forecasters, it will also be very warm on Monday. During the day, the air should warm up to 18-23 degrees Celsius.
