The birds will have a new home: more than 60 nests have been raised in the Youth Park

--

Birds that have returned from warm countries have new homes. Those new homes are more than six dozen nests, which were raised by the students of the city of Alytus together with foresters on Thursday afternoon in the Youth Park.

Nerijus Cesiulis, the mayor of Alytus city municipality, welcomed the children gathered to the annual bird nest raising campaign “Let’s give houses to birds”.

“Birds will soon settle in the nests raised today. I’m glad that there will be vievers or other birds in the Youth Park, which will make our life happy with their chirping. This promotion takes place every year, so I hope that we will hang the nests in another part of the city, and now choose the tree you like the most, hang the nest in it and come back after a while to see if someone has settled in it,” said the city manager.

Ornithologist Gediminas Petkus was happy to notice that more and more children give houses to birds every year, and thanked them for their active participation in the campaign.

After the musical performances of the students of Alytus Dainava pro-gymnasium, the children, together with the foresters of the Prienai Regional Division of the State Forestry Office, got down to work – one by one, they placed nests of various sizes and colors on the trees growing in the Youth Park. A few nests were raised together with the students by the heads of the Alytus city municipality.
