Since the level of ambient air pollution exceeded the established norms, residents were urged to take safety measures. Residents of the capital received reports that they should close windows, recuperation systems, avoid being outdoors and refrain from taking children to educational institutions.

According to the recommendations of the National Public Health Center (NVSC), during the fire, it was necessary to remove pollutants deposited on outdoor terraces, indoor floors, and other surfaces. It was also recommended to wash curtains, bedding, etc.

On Friday, residents of Vilnius approached “Bendraukime” with questions, is it possible to open the windows and take the children outside?

“Perhaps you could help the people of Vilnius to understand whether it is possible to return to normal life after the fire?”

After Paneriai str. after the fire, we received warning messages not to ventilate the premises, not to go outside. The kindergarten sent recommendations not to take children to the educational institution.

Yesterday we sat blindly closed, we didn’t even ventilate the rooms. Maybe it’s a coincidence, maybe not, but yesterday I had a bad headache. That’s why I avoided going out. However, there was no information on when it is possible to ventilate the house again, go outside, etc. We live in Naujamiestis, where the fire took place. Is air pollution still very high in this area? Is it dangerous for health?” – wrote a worried woman from Vilnius.

There is no longer a health hazard

Public information specialist Zigmantas Nagys of the quality management and communication department of the National Public Health Center reassured that

“According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the concentration of solid particles in the city of Vilnius has decreased significantly and no longer poses a threat to the health of the population,” said the NVSC representative.
