The Easter tree blossomed with daisies: two neighbors decided to make the whole town happy

--

“We started with a few eggs. I bought white foam eggs for decoration. At first, we painted them and hung them on a tree, but the stripes were torn by the wind, and the patterns were washed away by the rain. Then the idea came to wrap the polka dots. That’s when my neighbor Milda and I got to work and helped crochet margučius. In the first year, we hung about 20-30, but every year we kept adding to the collection and today we have over two hundred”, said Saulutė Kubilienė, the creator of the idea.

My friends say that she crochets polka dots the way she knows how, and creates the patterns herself, and combines the colors the way they think is the most beautiful.

“We do everything from our heads. We have all kinds of thread ends. We buy new ones if we want brighter colors, and we don’t do it,” says Saulutė.

Depending on the size of the egg, it takes half an hour to two hours to submerge the marguti. For example, a chicken-sized egg can be hatched in 30 minutes, an ostrich egg – several times longer.

Now, the tree, decorated with beautiful daisies of various sizes, pleases the eyes of both locals and foreigners.

“We decorated the tree last week, but on social networks I see how people are uploading photos of themselves by the Easter egg,” S. Kubilienė smiled.

Miežiškis also decorated

The Easter mood is filled not only with this tree decorated by neighbors, but also Miežiškiai. As soon as spring woke up, S. Kubilienė started to teach other Miežiskie women to crochet margučius.

“All the women who run the village came, so we didn’t have any problems. I showed the beginning, told how to lower the cap, explained that only at the end put the egg in and only then close the top. The women worked with a lot of desire and drive, and that’s why the Marguts are the most beautiful in our village”, S. Kubilienė was happy.

Community members decorated the public spaces of the Miežiškii town, the Mieziskii section of the Raguva gymnasium with crocheted marguits and other Easter decorations. S. Kubilienė also gave handmade margučius to the community of Paliūniškis village.

“I enjoy sharing so that as many people as possible can see, learn and beautify themselves. After all, it’s spring, let’s welcome it with happy mood and colors”, said S. Kubilienė.
