R. Karbauskis. I am addressing the President, because it is up to him whether Lithuania will take part in provoking the third world war

After this interview, we can assume that the conservatives will sharpen their rhetoric on the topic of war after the change of ministers and seek to introduce martial law in Lithuania. This would mean that the country could not hold elections until the war is over.

By sending troops to Ukraine, which itself says that it does not want NATO troops on its territory, the conservatives turn Lithuania into the instigators of the third world war and meet the expectations of Russia, which is just waiting to have an excuse to accuse NATO of direct participation in the war. I’m not talking about the fact that the conservatives will spit on it if Lithuanian citizens die in the war.

I want to point out that, according to our data, there are no serious discussions about sending NATO troops to warring Ukraine. Not in NATO headquarters, nor in the European Union. On the contrary, France is criticized for insufficiently small military support for Ukraine.

NATO countries, including Lithuania, committed to helping Ukraine, constantly send weapons and humanitarian aid, but they CANNOT send troops to Ukraine, even for training purposes. We are reliable partners of NATO and follow the principles of collective DEFENSE.

So today the President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda must immediately answer – is L. Kasciūnas telling the truth when he states that E. Macron’s proposal was approved at the highest level? Does the President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda also think that it is necessary to send Lithuanian soldiers to Ukraine? As usual for conservatives, are they themselves – Vytautas and Gabrielius Landsbergiai – the highest authority in Lithuania?

The president will choose from the candidates proposed by the conservatives for the ministers of national defense. We understand that the situation is complicated, because this party dismissed the minister who did not allow war moods to be incited in Lithuania. The Union of Lithuanian Peasants and Greens calls on the President of the Republic of Lithuania to responsibly fulfill this obligation and reassure the people that Lithuania will not be involved in the war.

We also call on the President to take the lead and provide answers to the public regarding the statements made by outgoing minister A. Anušauskas regarding corruption in the national defense system. If there is even the slightest possibility that money is being stolen, we will not return to any consideration of increasing the defense budget. Also, until we see that the situation regarding national defense is under control, the Union of Lithuanian Peasants and Greens will not return to the party agreement on defense. It is important for us that the people of Lithuania are safe.
