My farm – the export and import of EU agri-food products grew

Brussels. In January, the export of agricultural food products reached 18.4 billion. euros. This was partly due to increased prices of olives, olive oil and grain products. The value of imports reached 13.4 billion. euros, according to the report of the European Commission on agri-food products.

The three main EU agri-food export trends in 2024 in January, the United Kingdom (UK), the United States (USA) and China remained.

The UK had 23 percent. export values, in addition, EU exports compared to 2023 in January, it increased the most – 8 percent. (+304 million euros).

Exports to the US compared to 2023 in January, it rose by 9 percent. (+179 million euros). On the other hand, EU exports to China decreased by 11 percent. (-141 million euros).

In terms of exported products, the value of EU olives and olive oil exports compared to 2023 in January, increased by 146 percent. (+175 million EUR), and mixed food products and ingredients – 10 percent.

Compared to 2023 January, in January of this year, the export of grains increased in volume and value, but the export of vegetable oil (-43%) and dairy products (-7%) decreased. Despite these changes, dairy products remained the second most exported product category.

Import

In January of this year, EU agricultural food imports reached 13.4 billion. EUR, which means that the value has increased by 10 percent compared to the previous month.

Brazil remained the EU’s main importing country, accounting for 10%. of total imports (23 million euros). Next came Ukraine, which accounted for 10 percent. imports, despite the fact that its value decreased by 2% compared to 2023. dry

Production imported from the UK also accounted for 10 percent. of total EU imports, despite the fact that imports decreased by 5%. (-57 million euros).

The import of olives and olive oil increased by 168 percent. (+80 million euros), but 34 percent (-472 million euros) grain imports decreased.

Imports of cocoa products also increased, while oilseeds, protein crops and vegetable oil decreased.
