“Any British military facilities and equipment on the territory of Ukraine and beyond may be a response to strikes by Ukraine using British weapons on Russian territory,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
The Kremlin also summoned Britain’s ambassador to Moscow to “file a strong protest” over recent comments by UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron.
“The ambassador was urged to think about the inevitable catastrophic consequences of such hostile steps by London and to immediately resolutely and unequivocally refute the belligerent provocative statements of the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the ministry said.
D.Cameron told Reuters last week that Ukraine has the “right” to use UK-supplied weapons to strike Russia on its territory.
“The Russian side values D. Cameron’s words as evidence of a serious escalation and confirmation that London is increasingly involved in military operations on the side of Kiev,” the Russian Foreign Ministry says.
Relations between the United Kingdom and Russia have worsened since Moscow’s 2022 February. launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine and prompted London to impose sanctions on Moscow.
Earlier on Monday, Russia announced it had begun preparing for nuclear weapons drills and accused Western officials of “provocative statements and threats” in deepening support for Ukraine.
