“It is no longer the case that the West should defend us against any threat, especially from the East, because we are the West,” he said.
According to D. Tusk, “we have become a strong state, a strong and wise nation”, responsible not only for the defense of Poland, but also for the whole of Europe. D. Tusk added that the 20-year EU is not the finish line and that Poland must now maintain its place in Europe and the world.
“We have to take care of Europe and our place in Europe, the West, NATO every day,” he emphasized. “If we don’t take care of our security, European unity, NATO’s longevity, all of this will fall to pieces.” “Everything is in our hands,” he added.
According to D. Tusk, during these 20 years Poles were building a country that has now become an extremely important part of Western civilization. “We have become Europe in every sense of the word,” he said. “I’m not talking about geography, but about security, about the fact that the quality of life of Polish men and women is improving every day, despite various twists and turns on the road. I am talking about basic values, about freedom, dignity, the rule of law. This is Europe. Poland has become the heart of Europe,” said the head of the Polish government.
“Every Pole knows what is the East, from which we always wanted to break free, and the West, which we sought,” said D. Tusk, adding that today Poland no longer needs to push anywhere, because the West is here.
