Residents of the small town of Eboli in southwestern Italy were shocked by the news that pit bulls living in a farmhouse had bitten a thirteen-month-old boy to death.
The boy and his mother came to visit his aunt, but it seems that the woman did not know about the dangerous dogs living next door. They attacked so suddenly and unexpectedly that they simply snatched the baby from the mother’s arms.
“Dogs are my friends. We knew them, but they never attacked us. Those dogs have never seen children, it seems that the dogs saw some kind of danger and attacked,” said the aunt of the murdered baby.

Italian medics rushed to try to save the child, but they failed. Both the child’s mother and the relatives who rushed to help suffered from dog bites. The police are investigating how such dangerous dogs escaped from the terrace, where they were kept and why they were running loose.
“This should be a warning to everyone. They are dangerous dogs, because sometimes they can be aggressive, especially if it is unexpected,” said Eboli Mayor Mario Conte.
Officers took both pit bulls away.
