“Faith, hope and love are three divine virtues. Faith and hope disappear, but love remains forever,” Petras Gražulis shared his wisdom while going to vote.

Since eight in the morning, there have been queues of people who have come to vote in Lukiškiau Square in the capital.

“Personally, it seems to me that there are at least four candidates, so that with them Lithuania will not get lost in the global context. Unfortunately, the price of democracy is that we have at least one candidate who is an ambassador for a whole other country,” said blogger Paulius Mykolaitis, who was waiting in line.

Not everyone cast their votes today

Petr Gražulis, who was thrown out of the Seimas for a gross violation of the Constitution, knows what he will vote for.

“I will vote for Ignas Vēgelė.” Because we were both on the Crikdem team, both then conservatives sold out– said P. Gražulis.

Presidential candidate Dainius Žalimas also came to the polling station. True, although he promised to vote, he suddenly changed his mind – he will vote on Sunday. It is said that he wants to vote together with his wife, who is not around today. However, Žalimas came to the polling station to take pictures with his colleagues.

While some candidates bring their wives with them to vote, others believe that their formula for success is to not appear in front of the cameras with their wives.

“I would have risked losing the votes of the majority of female voters. I chose the most politically neutral option and came to vote alone, with my heart and conscience,” joked candidate Andrius Mazuronis.

Blinkevičiūtė did not miss the opportunity to sting the conservatives

Vilija Blinkevičiūtė, the leader of social demos at the top of the ratings, also came to vote. Her party decided not to participate in the presidential elections and to support the current president Gitana Nausėdas.

“I chose a serious person, a responsible person. The state needs stability”, said V. Blinkevičiūtė.

After voting, Blinkevičiūtė does not miss the opportunity to sting the conservatives.

“They need enemies, new fronts, wars, that’s how they mobilize voters. Well, they don’t have the time, for example, to work responsibly,” said the leader of the Social Democrats.

Blinkevičiūtė said that the friends of the party are so united that no one would even think of voting for Nausėdas.

The Central Electoral Commission explains that voter turnout yesterday was twice as high as during the 2019 presidential election. That time, about 17,000 people voted on the first day. And yesterday – about 37 thousand voters. There is no doubt that voter turnout will be even higher today.

Early voting in the presidential election will take place for three days – until Thursday evening.
