May 8 At night, Russian forces launched a large-scale offensive against Ukrainian cities. Throughout the night, Russia fired cruise and ballistic missiles, rockets and Shahed-type drones, the Ukrainian Air Force said.

About 5 o’clock in the morning local time, several explosions were heard in Zaporizhia and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, Suspilne reported.

Residents reported that around 5:30 p.m. local time heard explosions in Kyiv. The Kyiv Oblast Military Administration also reported explosions in the Kyiv Oblast near the capital.

Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses were active in all regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv and as far west as the city of Lviv. Air warning sirens were heard in all regions of Ukraine earlier.

Until 6 o’clock As of this morning, no casualties have been reported.

In response to the Russian attack, the Polish Air Force said it had diverted planes to protect Polish airspace, along with allied forces.

“Tonight, intensive long-range aviation activity of the Russian Federation is being observed in connection with missile strikes against objects located on the territory of Ukraine,” the Polish Air Force wrote.

Earlier, Poland had already activated fighter jets on March 28. during a massive attack on Ukraine.

Russian missile and drone attacks have become more frequent and intense in recent months. Ukraine is critically short of anti-aircraft defense systems as Congress delays approving US military aid, giving Russian forces an opportunity to resume attacks on energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian officials have warned that Russia is preparing for an expected summer offensive as Ukraine’s ammunition and anti-aircraft defenses dwindle.

President Volodymyr Zelensky previously called on partners to provide further anti-aircraft defense.

“We need air defense and other defense support, not closing our eyes and having a long discussion,” he said on his Telegram channel.
