The European Parliament and the International Charlemagne Prize Foundation in Aachen annually award the European Charlemagne Youth Prize to young people’s projects promoting EU values.

First place winner: about 30 percent. women in Europe face violence

On Tuesday in Aachen, the three best European youth projects were announced and awarded cash prizes. First place and 7.5 thousand. The “Sisterhood Pathways” campaign of Lithuanian youth, which aims to draw attention to and prevent violence against women in the Baltic Sea region, won EUR. Through murals, workshops and social media campaigns, the aim is to bring the community together and raise awareness about how to fight violence against women and help victims of this crime.

15 minutes after contacting the project manager Akvile Latožaite, who works at the AY Institute, she testified that she was very happy with such recognition and emphasized that it will provide benefits both in publicizing an important issue and in motivating the people who initiated and implements the project more.

“Statistics show that about 30 percent women in Europe face violence. So the numbers are terrible. The fact that we received an assessment to find ways to deal with this problem is the best response that our initiative could have received. Such a win really helps bring such and similar initiatives to the public and attract more people”, asserted A. Latožaitė.

According to her, the “Sisters’ Roads” project will continue until September. After it ends, in September, a final conference will be held, where the work and results of the project will be presented. It is planned that the partners of the initiative from Latvia and Poland, as well as various experts fighting against violence against women, will gather.

Second place (€5,000) was won by the French youth empowerment platform “Think, act and gather together to not forget the youth”. It aimed to mobilize vulnerable European youth. Over the past two years, more than 100 young people from 10 EU countries who have experienced poverty and exclusion have met regularly to share their experiences and everyday difficulties together.

Third place (€2,500) was won by a German online magazine about Europe, which provides information about Europe using infographics, maps and simple numbers. Instead of long texts, the magazine uses visuals and presents information about European politics, culture, environment and society through numbers and simple diagrams.

The European Charlemagne Youth Prize is intended for young people aged 16-30 working on EU projects. Since 2008 almost 6 thousand competed for the prize. projects.
