As May 9 approaches, when Russia and some other countries of the former Soviet Union celebrate their victory in the Second World War, the Lithuanian public is speculating about possible provocations.

Recently, entities connected to the Kremlin regime in Lithuania and other Baltic states have been actively conducting psychological information operations, which include kinetic actions, when violations of legal acts of a steering nature are purposefully committed, according to the announcement of the Department of State Security (VSD) distributed on Tuesday. The department points out that these operations are aggressive in order to influence the public, intimidate them, create panic and disrupt the work of state institutions.

It should be noted that information-psychological attack campaigns are poorly based on events that are relevant in the attacked areas at the time, and socially important topics and important historical dates are used to create narratives, VSD points out. Monuments dedicated to the anti-Soviet resistance last year in the Baltic Sea were purposefully vandalized on May 9. on the eve of Victory Day in Russia. according to the evaluation of the board, in the near future the probability of similar attacks or provocations at various objects in Lithuania remains high.

VSD once again draws attention to the fact that the front services seek to recruit residents of Lithuania and other Baltic states in various ways, who can later be used to carry out such provocations or attacks.

Social networks are still used for this purpose, where advertisements constantly appear, claiming that people are wanted who agree to pay certain fees, for example, to photograph strategically important infrastructure or military objects, and to collect data about individuals, to carry out acts of sabotage or vandalism, the message states. VSD also asks to report on advertisements noticed on social networks, which ask for financial rewards for acts of vandalism and the execution of other legal acts in Lithuania.
