“After a long process, this is undoubtedly great news and a big contribution to our team. We are talking about one of the best scorers in Europe,” said Puerto Rico Basketball Federation President Yum Ramos.

We remind you that in the selection taking place in Puerto Rico (San Juan) (July 2-7) for the Olympic Games in Paris, Lithuanians will play in group A with the national teams of Mexico and the Ivory Coast, while in group B the national teams of Italy, Puerto Rico and Bahrain will compete, so Lithuanians potentially in the semifinals or finals (depends on the results – ed.) they will be able to face Puerto Rican basketball players.

Mr. Howard was born in New Jersey, but has family ties in Puerto Rico and will be able to don the country’s uniform. In addition, M. Howard is the brother of Jordan Howard, who already played for Puerto Rico in the last World Cup.

Mr. Howard played for the US national team at the youth level (sixteen- and seventeen-year-old national teams – ed.), but he had not done so at the men’s level.

“We are very happy to welcome Marcus to our team. Markus has become one of the best players in Europe and it is a huge luxury for us to have him. His offensive talent raises our expectations for our team,” said former NBA player Carlos Arroyo, head coach of the Puerto Rico national team.

We remind you that M. Howard was recognized as the best scorer in the Euroleague and was awarded the Alphonso Ford title.

The defender collected 19.5 points in the Euroleague this year and hit as many as 148 three-pointers.
