Since 2017, sales of electric cars have grown three times faster than the installation of charging stations, according to a report published by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) on Monday.

As developed economies such as the EU strive to move away from fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the automotive industry is investing heavily in electric vehicles as an alternative to internal combustion engines.

“Achieving Europe’s ambitious CO2 reduction targets requires a massive shift to electric cars in all EU countries,” ACEA Secretary General Sigrid de Vries said in a press release. “This will not be possible if public charging infrastructure is not widely available throughout the region.”

According to the calculations of the European Commission, 3.5 million people will be needed by 2030. charging points.

According to ACEA, in order to reach 3.5 million target, 8,000 stops per week would need to be installed by then, roughly three times faster than now.

However, the industry association also noted that 3.5 million stops will not be enough. According to ACEA, by 2030 the EU will need 8.8 million charging points, which means that 22,000 points will need to be installed every week – eight times more than now.
