“The most important thing is that there should be stability, to ensure the well-being of the people of Lithuania and, at the same time, effective participation of Lithuania in the European Union. Those would be my main goals. I hope that the new president will live and work in that direction”, commented V. Adamkus to journalists in Lukiškiau Square, where early voting in the elections and referendum is taking place.

When asked what he voted for in the presidential election and how he decided to vote in the referendum on preserving citizenship, the president did not go into details.

“I think you are very clear. There is nothing to say. Both are positive,” he replied with a smile.

8 candidates are competing in the presidential elections, one of which is Gitanas Nausėda, who is running for a second term. G. Nausėda participated in the election campaign of the outgoing president V. Adamkus, and when V. Adamkus became the president, he was his public advisor on economic issues.

G. Nausėda has repeatedly responded with nice, favorable words about V. Adamkės. Before the 2019 presidential elections, V. Adamkus admitted that he would vote for G. Nausėdas.

Adamkės my teacher, many of his principles are close to my heart and I would like to return them to Lithuanian politics. These are respect for each other, political culture, keeping one’s word, putting state interests above party interests. This support is important to me not only politically, but also morally. For me, this is a confirmation that I am striving to solve a vital problem of Lithuania, and this work is necessary and meaningful,” G. Nausėda wrote on Facebook.

On Thursday, early voting in the presidential election and referendum will continue until 20:00. evening

Voters can vote in all 60 municipalities, regardless of where they have declared their place of residence.

According to the data of the Central Electoral Commission, during the first two days of early voting in the presidential election and the referendum on the preservation of citizenship, a total of more than 91 thousand people voted. voters. This is 3.82 percent. from the total number of all voters.

The main day of voting in the presidential election and referendum is Sunday. If necessary, the second round of the presidential election will be held on May 26.
