The incident occurred around 7 a.m. 51 min. took place in Riga st. The driver of the garbage truck that was carrying the garbage noticed smoke. When he realized that there was a fire in the garbage being transported, the man reacted quickly. He dumped the garbage right on the street and pulled the car away from the fire.
When the firefighters arrived, they extinguished the burning garbage, no one was injured in the incident, and the garbage truck was also saved.
After the event, Rigas st. was covered with burnt garbage, but the employees of the company that owns the garbage truck immediately started cleaning it.
The agency Elta reports that the garbage truck of the environmental management company “Ecoservice” was on fire. As can be guessed, the combustible waste thrown into the container by the residents was on fire.
“The driver, having noticed the smoke, acted according to the instructions: he immediately stopped, tried to put out the fire, failed, pushed the waste out of the garbage truck, reported the incident to the authorities. We thank the firefighters for their prompt response and extinguishing. At the moment, the place of the incident has already been cleaned”, says Daiva Skrupskelienė, director of the company’s waste collection business.
“We want to draw the residents’ attention to the responsible treatment of waste – dangerous, flammable, explosive materials, as well as hot ashes and batteries, must not be thrown into the containers in any way, as this can become the cause of accidents,” says D. Skrupskelienė.
The incident did not disrupt the company’s work, waste collection will be carried out according to the planned route in Vilnius according to the scheduled schedule.
