The Vilnius airport ramp is permanently closed – MadeinVilnius.lt

Starting from Monday, the car access road to the departure terminal at Vilnius airport will be closed. Vehicles will be directed to other short-term stopover or parking areas.

According to the company Lietuvos ooro uostai (LTOU), the changes are related to the current reorganization of the Vilnius airport traffic scheme and the planned opening of a new departure terminal with twice the capacity at the beginning of next year.

According to LTOU development manager Arno Dūmans, all works are going smoothly, deadlines are being met – the new departure terminal should be opened in 2025, as planned.

“This is a bit of an inconvenience in the course of our major reconstructions, but I think that a very successful next phase is in sight,” A. Dūmanas told LRT radio on Monday.

Pedestrians will continue to be able to use the approach road, as well as transport serving passengers with individual needs who have filled out a special form in advance.

As reported by LTOU, in May, the so-called “Kiss and Fly” zone, where passengers are disembarked, will operate only on the airport lots in front of the arrivals terminal. Cars bringing passengers will be able to park for free for 15 minutes at the “Kiss and Fly” lots.

In order to control the temporary changes in the approaches to Vilnius airport, more than 10 employees have been hired to provide information around the clock and help passengers orientate themselves during the reconstruction period.

According to A. Dūmans, the hired workers will also help regulate traffic and direct drivers who are unaware of the closure of the ramp.

“Passengers often used the ramp to get to the second floor of the terminal and get directly to the departure hall, so this road is closed from today, but the same other options remain – passengers will be able to get to our departure terminal on foot and through the old terminal and use other parking lots located near the terminal”, A. Dūmanas told LRT radio.

The reconstruction of the transport accesses, which is taking place together with the construction of the airport’s new departure terminal, is planned to be completed in October. The works are being carried out in stages so that the impact on traffic is as minimal as possible during the transition period.

According to the Vilnius Airport Traffic Scheme Reorganization Plan, the area of ​​parking and other traffic areas is planned to be expanded to 17,000 square meters. square meters, combining all plots into one.

It is planned to change the traffic scheme at the airport from June 3, when the last stage of the reconstruction of its accesses will be started. More detailed information about this is intended to be provided in mid-May.
