Yesterday, a total of over 30 firefighters from Kretinga, Klaipėda, Kartena, Darbėnai, Baublia, Palanga, Gargžda worked at the fire station.

The National Public Health Center has warned about possible air pollution in Kretinga, Klaipėda street. According to the report, the fire broke out on the territory of UAB “Imedeksa” company, the smoke from the fire can be dangerous to health.

The Kretinga district municipality also warned on its Facebook account that due to the fire at UAB “Imedeksa” and possible air pollution, the residents of Kretinga, who live next to Klaipėda Street, in the so-called Lapyn area, in the gardens of “Draugystės” and in the surrounding areas, are asked to close the windows of their houses. temporarily turn off recovery systems and avoid being in fresh air.

Due to the fire, car traffic is also prohibited on Klaipėda street in Kretinga. Also, if there is no necessity, drivers are asked not to drive on Šventoji street and to choose other travel routes.

“If you are outside and you see dark smoke, smell a specific smell, move to the windward side – that is, so that the wind does not carry the smoke towards you. Residents living closer to the fire are advised not to go outside, while staying at home – not to open vents, windows and doors. If the house has mechanical ventilation systems, recuperation or air conditioning, we recommend turning off the systems. If you have wells, cover them and do not use them for drinking water. Do not leave animals outside. If you feel unwell, it is recommended to seek medical attention immediately.

When driving past the fire scene, it is recommended to close the car windows tightly,” the NVSC also warns.

NVSC reminds that the symptoms of acute exposure to pollutants: irritation of the eyes, nose and throat, shortness of breath, cough, weakened lung function (especially in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), increased susceptibility of the respiratory tract to respiratory infections (especially in children), exacerbated allergic inflammatory reactions of the respiratory tract .

UAB “Imedeksa” was founded in 1999. established family business, mainly exporting its products abroad. The company mainly produces wooden houses.

Environmentalists are investigating

According to the press release of the Department of Environmental Protection, upon receiving the report, environmentalists immediately went to the scene of the fire. According to preliminary data, the production premises are currently on fire and cannot be accessed yet.

“The laboratory of the Environmental Protection Agency went to take ambient air samples and measure solid particles and other pollutants. A pollutant spread forecast for the next few hours is also being prepared, which will show the potential spread of pollutants and the impact zone, that is, in which area the concentration of pollutants in the air may be increased. The situation is being monitored, the public will be promptly informed upon receipt of the latest air quality research data,” the report states.

Specialists of the Environmental Protection Agency informed that high concentrations of suspended solid particles were recorded in the fire zone within a radius of 100 meters, therefore residents were recommended to stay at home until the fire was completely extinguished.
